Faces from 1938, pt. 1

Did you by any chance catch the “History Preserved” column in the In the Air section of Model Aviation magazine’s April issue? The museum highlighted a panoramic photograph donated by J.D. Foster. The event pictured is the Annual Miniature Airplane Contest, held October 2, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri.

We are attempting to identify individuals in this photograph. Some of them are already identified (by name or other descriptor) as you can see from this enlarged photograph of the left section of the panorama. Do you know who the other flyers are? If you have some ideas, please write to the Museum’s Archivist, Jackie, at jackies@modelaircraft.org.

We will post several more blogs this month with three more close-up views of the photograph. Check back next week to see another section of this great piece of American modeling history.
