Cover Blast: Model Aviation Covers, pt. 2

Model Aviation covers (and a cartoon too funny not to share!) from the early 1940s.

In February 1940, the headline of Model Aviation read, "Academy and Model Division Merge," referring to the merger of the NAA's modeling division and the AMA organization. A second headline annouced that "Gas Model Insurance is in the Works."
National Model Aviation Museum, Lee Renaud Memorial Library. Model Aviation, vol. 4, no. 2, February 1940.
In March 1940, Model Aviation annouced that "Academy reduces rubber model competition to 50 cents yearly; minium age for gas model competition dropped to 14 years."
National Model Aviation Museum, Lee Renaud Memorial Library. Model Aviation, vol. 4, no. 3, March 1940.
In a cartoon drawing, a friend holds a modeler's rubber model as he winds the motor. The modeler, however, wound it too far and now finds himself unwinding in tornado-like movement. The caption reads, "I knew you were putting on too many turns!"
Not a cover this time, but a fun cartoon from the interior page! National Model Aviation Museum, Lee Renaud Memorial Library. Model Aviation, vol. 6, no. 5-6, March 1942, pg. 13.
The September 1942 cover features a poem, "My gas job was a super-ship, it flew just like a hawk. The motor'd started with a single flip, and then sit up and talk. A beautiful ship my gas job was, for all the meets I primse 'eer, until it flew away becuase I forgot to set the timer."
