During the early 1970s, official Nats events did not include RC Soaring, so the S.O.A.R. club held their own Nats for the discipline These were popular, and multiple launching winches were needed to keep up with pilot demand. S.O.A.R. club co-founder Dan Pruss designed a winch and reached out to many people to build the components. A total of twelve were built, all of which were assembled by James McIntyre in time for the 1974 S.O.A.R. Nats.
Eleven winches were sold at the end of the S.O.A.R. Nats, but James kept one for his own use. It was recently donated to the museum by James’ son, Michael G. McIntyre.
Thank you for helping to grow the museum’s collection!
