When Astro Flight produced the first sensored brushless motors in 1997, Arnie Gaus did the math and realized that electric-powered model helicopter flight might finally be possible. He purchased a Lite Machines LMH-100 helicopter kit, Astro 020 motor (model #802), SR 500Max NiCad battery pack, and a custom dual FET controller and began the project. The first flight in June 1998 proved that electric rotary wing flight was indeed possible. Arnie recently donated the complete helicopter and accessories to the museum’s collection.

This is way cool. And seeing the young man flying it with his father is even cooler. Got my younger brother a beginner helicopter for Christmas. I have been playing with one similar on my simulator. I want to teach him how to fly it.
