Old Ad: Santa approves of McCoy 60 Red Head

The Duro-Matic Products Co. was very proud of their newest McCoy 60 Red Head engine, proclaiming that it set the official AMA world’s record of 123.88 mph in August 1946.  Similar ads for the engine appeared in both Model Airplane News and Air Trails Pictorial in December 1946.

Santa waves a checkered flag as he stands over the McCoy 60 Red Head engine. McCoy is an engine company that sells engines for model boats, model cars, and model airplanes.
If Santa approves of the engine than why shouldn’t you give the gift of speed for Christmas? Ad, Duro-Matic Products, Co., “These Gifts Get the Checkered Flag.” Air Trails Pictorial December 1946, pg. 23.

Although the McCoy 60 in the museum’s collection has been modified and is missing a few parts, it isn’t too hard to imagine the excitement it created when it was new.

This glow McCoy 60 engine has an anodized red head and black body.
