The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved an application from the Northern Virginia Radio Control club to establish an airfield, runway and pit area on the closed Lorton Landfill. The approval came on a zoning request change from the club.
The new airpark, on the I-95 landfill, will include a 400-foot grass runway with a pit area to assemble aircraft. The Pit Area will have a garden shed for storage and a portable restroom. Mindful of the neighborhood, designated airspace will keep the planes away from nearby homes. Under the agreement, a maximum of five planes will be in the air at one time; 400 feet is the maximum allowed altitude.
Do you have any idea as to when the Lorton Land Fill rc field will open. Thanks
