Goodbye Interns!

Earlier this summer, we introduced you to the museum’s three summer interns.  They went back to school in August, and we’re sorry to see them go.  Everyone managed to get a lot done, though, and we are very thankful for their work.  Here’s an update on their projects.

This summer Jenn Collins researched and cataloged two large collections donated in the early days of the museum.  She also researched and installed a small exhibit on RC Model Skydivers and helped develop a multimedia label for the A.J. Walker Company exhibit (which, sadly, is waiting on some more information before it can be completed).

Jenn spent a lot of time cataloging, including everything on this cart.

Cataloging means storing things. Here’s Jenn placing Jim Walker’s Control Line helmet into storage.

Samantha Weaver spent her days working on redesigning several exhibits.  Along with Michael Smith she re-designed the Scale Exhibit, installed the Balsa Exhibit and then researched and installed the Jets Exhibit on her own.

The Scale Exhibit has several new model airplanes on display, along with information on how scale models are researched.

Samantha reinstalled the models in the Jets Exhibit to be more visible and attractive. She’s also wrote a new text panel (not installed in this picture) with information on jet motors.

Justin Kersey worked on multiple Archives projects, including helping scanning Model Aviation issues from the 1960s, filing newspaper clippings by subject, worked on our past Nats winners spreadsheet, reorganized an archives collection, and helped with research requests.

Justin spent time sorting and shelving magazines.
