  1. Are the people at the faa that stupid to believe that any one wishing harm is going to register their drone? Just like guns the bad guys will always have gun! Just a waste of time to justify
    their jobs. Ken Merusi

  2. Mr. Dunn, after reading your entire article,I have no question. In your experience, when has a government agency EVER,through knee jerk legislation, created a BETTER system that doesnt burden private citizens will more cost and more hastle?

The United Parachute Association has regulated the sport of skydiving exceptionally well. Why, because you MUST, be a member to progress further than STUDENT Status. Those irresponsibly operating drones don’t NEED the AMA. They don’t NEED to be checked out at a flying club. All they need is money,a way to charge the packs and a spot to launch.

Registration, now formally released is a very slippery slope. Our hobby is in decline. IMO, this will have no positive effect on safety and will surely end up resulting in further draconian limitations.

  3. BTW for anyone interested in asking the FAA for themselves, the direct phone number is (202) 267-8306.

Or Contact: Les Dorr or Alison Duquette
    Phone: (202) 267-3883

This is the office the FAA says is in charge of the registration and where I was told on a phone call, that if I am flying at a designated model flying field I did not have to register for anything. If that is true, it means it exempts most of us flyers and not the over my/your house video spy-ers.

    Give them a call.

  4. While Terry is an AMA member and active Model Aviation and Park Pilot contributor, he is not a representative of the AMA Government Relations Team. Where such information?
