“It’s going to be a dynamite facility,” says Gerard DeLong, president of the Mesilla Valley Model Airplane Club (MVMAC). “We’re hoping, with the new field, that we’ll be able to possibly sponsor some national activities with the national organization, Academy of Model Aeronautics.”
What was once the final destination for waste disposal — the old Foothills Landfill at 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd. — will soon be the site of a park for model airplane enthusiasts to soar their carefully crafted creations. The model airplane park is under construction now; an archery range is also being planned. Both should be up and running by late this fall.

Information on AMA’s flying site assistance program
The AMA has been involved in helping clubs with flying site issues for many years. After all, without flying sites, we can’t enjoy our hobby! As AMA’s Flying Site Assistance Coordinator, my job is to assist clubs with any and all issues in regard to flying sites.
