Remembering Tim Jesky

Tim Jesky

The AMA is saddened to share the news that Tim Jesky (AJ Aircraft) passed away on January 15th. Tim was a wonderful ambassador for the AMA and our hobby, and above all, a truly kind and generous person. Tim served as AMA District VII Vice President, was a member of the AMA Foundation Board, and was deeply involved in FAI competitions.

Please keep the Jesky family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Timothy Dean Jesky, a lifelong ambassador for model aviation, passed away on January 15, 2026, at the age of 74.

Born on November 1, 1951, in Wyandotte, Michigan, Tim lived a life of service to his country and community. After graduating high school in 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as an Infantry Medic with the First Calvary during the Vietnam War, during which Tim demonstrated exceptional courage and selflessness. His military honors included the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Medic Badge, National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with two campaign stars.

In 1971, Tim received an honorable discharge from the military and settled down to start a family. He married the love of his life, Linda, in 1978, and together they raised two sons, Jospeh and Andrew. After working for U.S. Steel in Ecorse, Michigan, for 37 years, Tim retired in 2010.

Throughout their life together, Tim and Linda were deeply immersed in the world of model aviation. Known for his approachability and steady leadership, Tim served as AMA’s District VII vice president for several years, was a member on the AMA Foundation Board, and served as the Weak Signals RC Club president in LaSalle, Michigan, for several years.

Tim was also part owner of AJ Aircraft alongside Linda and their sons, a venture that grew into a respected name in the model aircraft community and took Tim and Linda traveling across the world. The couple took great pride in the business, eventually passing it on to Andrew and his wife, Paige, who continue its legacy today out of Alabama. Tim also had a large presence at the Toledo Show: R/C Model Expo in Toledo, Ohio, for many years, both as a vendor for AJ Aircraft and in assisting the Toledo Weak Signals club host the expo.

Beyond model aviation, Tim generously supported his fellow veterans through the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization, helping many navigate the complexities of military benefits. At home, he enjoyed spending time with his family and unwinding by watching his favorite TV show, Law and Order.

Tim’s steady presence, humor, and genuine care for others will be deeply missed throughout the model aviation community and beyond. His legacy lives on in the countless pilots he encouraged, the clubs he strengthened, and the family he cherished. If you wish to honor his memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Tim’s memory may be made to DAV Chapter 137 Frenchtown/Newport in Monroe, Michigan, by calling (734) 790-8178.

Blue skies, Tim.

  1. I was deeply saddened to hear of Tim’s passing. Having worked alongside many AMA Executive Officers over the years, I can truly say Tim was in a class of his own. Whether we were at the executive council, serving on a committee, or at a field event, he approached every challenge with a permanent smile and a genuine kindness that set everyone at ease.

Tim had a rare gift for ‘commonsense wisdom’; he could take a complex situation and find a successful path forward using simple logic and his legendary encyclopedia of jokes. He brought laughter and light to every occasion.

Above all, it was clear that Tim was a devoted family man. It was a joy for all of us to see him work alongside Linda, Andrew, and Joe in their AJ Aircraft business and at events. To the family: may your most cherished memories of Tim bring you peace and strength during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed by us all.”

His spirit and legacy will continue to inspire those of us who had the privilege of knowing him.

  2. I had the honor of working with Tim for several years on the AMA Executive Council. Tim was always very level headed and when he spoke he had analyzed any issue carefully and came up with a workable solution. I also had the privilege of helping Tim run a flight line at the NATS. While not a difficult job Tim went above and beyond and would talk to each competitor as they were waiting their turn to fly. Tim’s positive attitude and calming demeanor would put the pilots at ease before their flight. Tim’s wife Linda was always by his side in his model aviation adventurers. I am so glad that Tim got to see his son Andrew win the world pattern championships in 2025. Godspeed my friend and prayers for the Jesky family.

  3. Hello, I have attended several pattern contests (only as an observer) both in Tucson and in Muncie.
I had the honor of meeting Tim and Andrew during my quest to find the answers to my many questions regarding these contests. Both Tim and Andrew took the time to answer my questions and were super friendly to me. I am very impressed and amazed at the very high level of skill and expertise that these contestants have. I am a member of the Denver RC Eagles Club and have been for over 22 years. I am sorry to hear of Tim’s passing at such a young age. I am almost 85 years old and doing fine. Thanks for your friendship and patience over the years. Bob Brelsford

  4. I only knew Tim as a District VII member for many years> He was truly a steady presence and a great and generous soul! Blue skies and winds right down the runway Tim! And my thoughts and prayers to Linda, Andrew, and Paige
