The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) has named AMA member Jim Richmond as one of the 2023 Distinguished Statesmen of Aviation for his “significant advancements in aviation, earning hundreds of aero sports awards, inspiring youth into aviation-related careers, and serving the US as an aero sports competitor and in the military.”

The recognition is part of the NAA’s McDonald Award program for aviation statesman. For more information, visit the National Free Flight Society’s (NFFS) website

I was honored to work with members of the National Free Flight Society and Mariana, Jim’s wife of 48 years, in submitting this well-deserved nomination. Jim volunteered countless hours to the hobby, inspired youth into aviation careers, innovated new designs, and won many aeromodeling awards and records. Equally important, Jim is genuinely nice person, great sportsman, and is quick to help any competitor.
