Flying Field Improvements at the IAC

Just in time for the busy flying season at the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC), several site improvements have been completed that will benefit members visiting the largest model aviation flying facility in the world.

Those benefits include numerous projects around the IAC and National Model Aviation Museum. Site projects include finishing the campground pedestals for camping on Sites 3 and 4, and filling cracks in the Site 3 runway.

A third pavilion has been erected at Site 4 that can accommodate large model aircraft and pitting. Also, a new runway behind the museum has been added for demonstrations and possibly a new flying site.

There are many other ongoing projects. The AMA Maintenance team is working hard on behalf of members to improve their IAC. Model aviation enthusiasts of all disciplines will find a first-class flying facility when visiting the AMA’s National Headquarters!

  1. I was at the IAC in mid-May and was able to drive around the property. All the site were looking good. Most of my experience is with Site-4. The crew has the runway smooth, which will help with smaler wheels. The pavilions look great compared to last year’s progress. The camping pedestle project was just getting started at sight-4, but will not only provide secure connections but look good as well. The crew was replacing a culvert over the weekend and had it finished by Sunday morning.
    Great job folks!
