AMA would like to thank our guests from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) for visiting the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana, home of the AMA Headquarters, during the weekend of November 11, 2016. Several AMA leaders met with FAI representatives, including FAI President Frits Brink, FAI Secretary General Susanne Schödel, FAI Aeromodelling Commission President Antonis Papadopoulos, President and CEO of the NAA (National Aeronautic Association) Greg Principato, and representatives from Argentina’s and Canada’s aeromodeling organizations.
AMA President Bob Brown has worked very closely with FAI as an AMA representative. His dedication and support of competition and the hobby were well-recognized by the FAI with the presentation of the FAI Paul Tissandier Diploma. The Diploma, established by the FAI in 1952, is named after Mr. Paul Tissandier, Secretary General of FAI from 1919 to 1945. It is awarded to those who have served the cause of aviation in general, and sporting aviation in particular, by their work, initiative, devotion, or in other ways.
Following the meeting with the FAI, Bob and JoAnne Brown were presented with the AMA Outstanding Service Award for Couples. This award was presented in recognition and appreciation of two individuals who, as a team, have given of themselves to the Academy in a consistent, selfless, and untiring manner for many years, providing an unmatched example of volunteerism to all.
We thank our guests for attending, and thank Bob and JoAnne for all they have done for the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the hobby and sport of model aviation.
