Lausanne, Switzerland, 15 April 2026 – FAI, the World Air Sports Federation, announces the launch of the “International Day of Air Sports”, to be celebrated annually on 14 October from 2026 onwards. This new global initiative aims to bring together the air sports community worldwide in a coordinated celebration.

Across the world, individuals, clubs, organisations and FAI Members will be invited to organise local initiatives and events, forming a shared celebration both in real life and across social media.

FAI will support and amplify these activities through a dedicated toolkit, including visual assets, guidelines and ready-to-use social media templates, ensuring consistent visibility.

Activities will centre on 14 October 2026, with flexibility for activation before and after the date to align with local opportunities. Events, demonstrations and digital content will showcase the diversity, accessibility and excellence of air sports, engaging audiences beyond the existing community. FAI will also lead dedicated campaign activations during the 120th FAI General Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, that same week.

By marking the anniversary of its founding in Paris on 14 October 1905, FAI honours its heritage and the pioneers of flight whose achievements shaped air sports, aviation and space exploration.

This annual initiative will strengthen connections across the air sports community, raise awareness of the value and diversity of air sports, and inspire future participation by highlighting the people, disciplines and values that define it.

FAI President Greg Principato said: “Across the world, people practise air sports in their own communities, often without realising they are part of something much bigger. For many, air sports are their gateway to the wonders of science, engineering and flight. Air sports inspire. With the International Day of Air Sports, FAI brings them all together through a shared moment, making that global community more visible and united, and inviting others to discover their passion. We look forward to seeing this celebration come to life worldwide.”
