Camp AMA 2013
Camp AMA is a week long summer camp held at the IAC in Muncie, IN. Campers are given the opportunity to learn and work on their flying capabilities with some of the best RC pilots in the world. Camp AMA accepts teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19 years old, with skill levels from beginner to advanced. In the summer of 2012 we had 17 campers come all across the country.
Campers will get the chance to work personally with our two main instructors Nick Maxwell and RJ Gritter. Both AMA Youth Ambassadors, Nick and RJ will help the campers work on techniques as well as show the kids a few flight demonstrations. Both instructors will use their expertise to train and teach the campers in all aspects of RC.
The camp will be sponsored this year by Applebee’s of Muncie. In the evening after a long day of flying the campers will be treated to Applebee’s dinner by a very gracious and welcoming staff. The AMA cannot say thanks enough to our sponsor.
Along with the all of the flying that the campers will get to do on the field they will also get to tour the National Model Aviation Museum and AMA Headquarters. This year we are planning on adding two new activities. We are going to have the campers build and fly a free flight model and control line flying.
This year we are encouraging clubs to help sponsor pilots for camp. Below is some information about helping young pilots take flight this summer!
Sponsoring a Camp AMA Camper
There are two types of sponsorships to choose from when sponsoring a camper to Camp AMA. Each of the sponsorships will give young pilots the chance to learn more about the hobby they love with campers their own age. Clubs sponsoring a camper’s tuition for Camp AMA will receive the discounted tuition price of $650.00
Sponsor a pilot you know: Send a pilot you know between the ages of 13-17 to camp. Donations of $650 will be accepted to pay the tuition fee of the chosen camper. This may be a young member in the club who is looking to increase their skills, or a member of the community who is interested in flying but does not have any experience.
Sponsor support: Clubs also have the option to donate toward Camp AMA to send a pre-selected pilot to camp. These potential campers have shown interest in the program, but cannot attend do to financial restrictions. Donations of all sizes will be accepted and are encouraged to help young pilots.
