Oklahoma bills run afoul

Oklahoma is pushing through three bills with restrictions on model aviation. While these bills may be well intended, they are problematic and need removed or amended. With your help, we are hopeful Oklahoma legislators will work with groups like AMA to find better solutions to protect everyone’s interests.

  • SB 660 attempts to protect privacy, but is extremely problematic as it encourages individuals to destroy or shoot down model aircraft. We unequivocally support the protection of individual privacy, but individuals who follow this bill will face severe federal penalties. In addition to being unlawful and counter to federal regulations, it presents serious hazards to persons and property on the ground.
  • HB 1326 attempts to protect trespassing, but is inconsistent with federal authority.
  • SB 630 attempts to protect trespassing, but is inconsistent with federal authority.

There are better solutions to protect Oklahoman’s rights, privacy, and trespassing concerns than what is proposed in these problematic bills. In a few clicks, we can identify your Oklahoma legislators and will provide a written letter you can edit and send expressing these concerns at www.modelaircraft.org/gov/oklahoma2017

We are also working with the media including Opinion pieces in Tulsa World and collaboration with Oklahoma City’s News 9.
