This event, hosted by the Oklahoma Radio Kontrol Society, took place September 19-21, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma crew with the help of Arline Mears and Bob Mears hold an amazing contest every year. The usually run Nostalgia as the first event, then they the Speed Limit event, and eventually end the contest with F2D single plane.
The first event was nostalgia combat, I was not supposed to fly in that event but there was some extra equipment and I ended up flying. Dave Fischer made some cool mongoose planes and as luck would have it he was out fairly early and wanted me to fly them so we flew several awesome matches and brought back some good memories! I will have to make something for this event because I had fun and I was able to fly against a mono boom, a Voodoo, and some other planes I don’t remember from that era. 1st Bob Mears, 2nd Andy Minor, 3rd Allen Bumbaugh.
The next event was speed limit and there was plenty of participants. The wind was up and maybe a little cloudy. Cary Minor and I tried some 15 size planes for this event and they worked pretty good but when we got hit it would totally destroy our planes so we went back to our bigger planes and had a lot of fun with this event. This event was flown as a cumulative points event. 1st Dave Fischer, 2nd Jeff Johnson, 3rd Andy Minor.
The last event was F2D single plane. There were lots of good matches and some not so good. After the dust settled Andy Minor had to fly Cary Minor for first and second place. The first match was a barn burner that eventually ended in a rematch. I had Bob pitting for me and Cary had Dave helping him. We fueled up again and had another barn burner. It was a lot of fun!

One of the cool things about the Oklahoma tournament is an old friend who has not flown in literally thirty years was there and he had equipment to fly. Rene Zeldenthuis was there along with Allen Bumbaugh, and Darrin Huey. These guys back in the day were definitely a team to take serious. There was a match that I got to fly Rene in nostalgia and it was a lot of fun and we cranking handles pretty hard.

These ladies organize and run the contest and do a superb job.
Larry Eschman has worked hard for a few years now organizing and putting this contest together. If you are looking for a fun outing with lots of combat put this one on your calender!
