Help Pick Model Builder’s Next Project

Update provided by Model Aviation Executive Editor Jay Smith

I’m pleased to announce that, after a close race, the winner of the “Next Model Design” poll is the Chance Vought F4U Corsair! “I am excited to start working on this project and share it with Model Aviation readers in a future issue,” Derek said.

The design will be a continuation of the Park Flyer Series. The projected wingspan will be between 30 to 34 inches with a weight of roughly 15 ounces, allowing it to be able to be flown in most medium-size parks.

The model’s plans will be available from the AMA Plans Service and online, a short kit will be available from Manzano Laser, and multiple 3D-printed scale parts, along with a power system, will be available from Rabid Models.

Similar to the other models in the series, it will be offered with templates for printed tissue covering in multiple liveries (military and possible racing). The model might also feature multiple options for landing gear and other scale details. Many thanks to all for their votes, some of the runner-up aircraft options may also be future projects!

ORIGINAL POST:

Readers can help select frequent Model Aviation contributor Derek Micko’s next construction project. The model will be a park flyer with a wingspan between 30 and 34 inches.

It will be similar in construction and covering to the other models in his park flyer series. Marc Stermer, from Rabid Models, will offer additional details for the model as applicable (3D-printed spinners, wheels, landing gear covers, etc.).

Depending on the aircraft chosen by the readers, the model will feature either plug-in landing gear, retracts, or both. Manzano Laser will offer a short kit should the builder choose not to cut their own parts.

Choose one model from the following list and email your choice to Jay Smith at jays@modelaircraft.org. The aircraft with the most votes will be selected on July 1, 2024.
