I am Mitch Marozas. I am 15 years old and live in Chicago, Illinois. I have been flying RC helicopters since I was about 6 years old. It all started when I was 4 years old and found my dad’s old RC airplanes and helicopters in a closet and wanted to know what they were all about. My dad took me to our local flying field and that’s where I met my first Pro Pilot friend, Jim Stark. From the moment I saw what his helicopter could do, I was hooked! I wanted to be able to do that! After learning the basics on my dad’s helicopters, I got my very own helicopter for my 8th birthday. Later that year, we started attending fun flies and received a lot of help from other pilots. In the past several years, I have gotten a lot of support from company sponsors, mainly Empire Hobby and Gaui Helicopters. I try to attend at least an event every month. This past year has been the most exciting. I placed 8th Place at the International Extreme Flight Championship in June. In August, I was chosen to compete in the ONE competition at the IRCHA Jamboree. This past September, Nickelodeon Television Network flew me and my mom to Hollywood to film an episode of the game show “Figure It Out” and in October, my dad and I flew to Taiwan to visit the GAUI helicopter factory and attend their fun fly. The best part about events is getting together and flying with other pilots. I have made so many friends of all ages from all over the world! I have so much fun learning new things from them and helping others that want to learn. There is always something new to learn. The technology is constantly changing allowing pilots to push themselves further and push the machines further to learn new things. In this hobby, it doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a pro or somewhere in-between, you can always count on friendly pilots that are willing to help you out.
