Government Relations Update, August 4, 2017

We would like to share with you another update on our government relations efforts in Washington, D.C. and across the U.S.

As you know, we have been working tirelessly with Congress to preserve and strengthen the Special Rule for Model Aircraft and to affirm the importance of the community-based model for managing the recreational community. Due to Congressional recess in August, we do not expect any further action on FAA reauthorization legislation until September.

Also in D.C. this week, Director of Government Relations Chad Budreau participated in another Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting to discuss the appropriate role of state and local governments in UAS-related regulations. In addition to this meeting, Chad Budreau and AMA President Rich Hanson spent the week working with the Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) on remote identification of UAS and law enforcement issues.

At the state and local level, the government relations team continues to fight legislation that could harm our hobby in New York, North Carolina, New Mexico and California. In addition, government relations representative Tyler Dobbs is assisting a local club in California to ensure ongoing access to a flying site managed by the Army Corp of Engineers that our members have been enjoying for 23 years. If you live in these states and are interested in helping with these efforts, please let us know.

As always, the most current information about our government relations efforts is available on our website www.modelaircraft.org/gov.

Thank you for your continued support of AMA!

Sincerely,
AMA Government Relations
