Government Relations Update, July 21, 2017

This week the AMA Government Relations team was busy once again fighting to protect our hobby in Washington, D.C. and across the U.S.

AMA President Rich Hanson and our Director of Government Relations, Chad Budreau, spent the week working with the Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) on UAS implementation and law enforcement issues. While in Washington, D.C., they also scheduled meetings with industry stakeholders to continue to discuss the value and benefits of our hobby.

Also, Government Relations representative Tyler Dobbs participated in a Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting focused on funding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and UAS integration. Tyler also attended the Flite Fest East in Malvern, Ohio, an event focused on bringing R/C aviation enthusiasts together to fly and connect with others in the community.

Additionally, the team has worked at the local and state level to fight possible legislation that could harm our hobby in Deadwood, South Dakota, Murphysboro, Illinois, Palm Beach, Florida and Raleigh, North Carolina. If you live in this area and would be interested in helping with these efforts, please let us know.

Last, but certainly not least, we made progress this week in our work with Congress to preserve and strengthen the Special Rule for Model Aircraft, and to affirm the importance of the community-based model to managing the recreational community.

As you know, the most current information about our government relations efforts is always available on our website www.modelaircraft.org/gov. Thank you for your continued support of AMA.

Sincerely,
AMA Government Relations
