FAA Releases RFP to Select Six UAS Test Sites

Federal Aviation Administration

On Thursday, 2/14, the FAA issued its long awaited and overdue Screening Information Request (SIR), otherwise known as a Request for Proposal (RFP), to develop and test unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) at six sites around the country.

In a statement by Michael Toscano, President and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, AUVSI sees the “announcement by the FAA is an important milestone on the path toward unlocking the potential of unmanned aircraft, and creating thousands of American jobs. Whether it is helping search and rescue teams, assisting in disaster response, or aiding scientific research, unmanned aircraft extend the human reach and allow us to accomplish dangerous and difficult tasks safely and efficiently.”
