Last weekend, I had the incredible honor of presenting the Academy of Model Aeronautics Hall Of Fame plaque to one of its newest members, aviation legend and astronaut Hoot Gibson. Hoot is not just a highly decorated aviator and 4 time space shuttle commander, but is also a passionate RC builder and flyer (the XFY Pogo is one of many of his scratch builds) and wonderful ambassador for this great hobby. His journey from flying and building RC planes to commanding space shuttle missions is a true testament to how this hobby inspires and where it can lead.

Thank you, Hoot, for being an inspiring ambassador for the RC community. Your dedication to the hobby continues to inspire present and future aviators and engineers (including myself). Congratulations on this well deserved accomplishment!

  1. As a 86 year old man ( going on 87 ) I personally am sorry for the dues increase as not everyone is flush with money , So , after many years of showing my support to the AMA , I am sorry to say that I will NOT be renewing my 2026 membership but I will still be helping our local club , LARKS which is located in Sulphur , La . on property that I donated many years ago for their flying site and was also instrumental in putting on the Nats held in Lake Charles Louisiana in the 70`s and 80`s .
