DCRC Hosts AMA President Bob Brown and the FAA

On August 14th the DC Radio Control Club (DCRC) hosted a visit to their spectacular flying site near Boyds, MD. by AMA President Bob Brown, Jamie Lessard from the FAA UAS Integration Office and representatives from Intelligent UAS, distributors of DJI UAS products. Members of the DCRC turned out to help provide a hands-on demonstration of radio controlled flight and an introduction to UAS technology.

With fantastic weather and the clubs’ generous hospitality, the evening and the demonstrations were a categorical success…

    1. Larry,

The Academy views First Person View/Video (FPV) to be an important and exciting facet of model aviation. AMA very much supports this activity and those individuals operating FPV in a safe responsible manner. The AMA Advanced Flight Systems Committee was formed as a means of supporting this activity, to review and understand the technology and to provide safety guidelines that promote safe FPV operations within our local communities and the national airspace system (NAS).

The committee’s efforts have resulted in the publication of AMA documents 550 & 560 which serve as AMA’s safety guidance to this community. Document 550 deals specifically with FPV operations while 560 speaks to the use of automated flight systems. Both 550 & 560 are living documents that are routinely reviewed and updated as the technology evolves and as the regulatory environment acclimates to the activity.

If you are an FPV enthusiast, I wish you the best and hope that you continue to have fun and enjoy the hobby.
