The debate over the use of unmanned aircraft in our civil airspace is heating up as privacy advocates call for a ban on the use of “Drones”. In the wake of FAA’s announced ease on UAS controls allowing public agencies to start flying in the national airspace, renewed concerns over privacy issues have emerged. In a Special Report, columnist Charles Krauthammer said, “I would predict—I’m not encouraging, but I’m predicting—the first guy who uses a Second Amendment weapon to bring a drone down that’s been hovering over his house is going to be a folk hero in this country. … I’m not encouraging, I’m simply making a prediction.”
In a response the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) rebuked the statement saying, AUVSI “does not condone violence against technology intended to keep citizens safe while saving taxpayer dollars.”
