In a celebration of education, innovation, and aeronautics, the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) recently played host to the distinguished recipients of the Air and Space Forces Association (AFA) Teacher of the Year awards.

The AMA, a longstanding advocate for model aviation enthusiasts, took the opportunity to extend its support and appreciation to the outstanding teachers honored by the AFA. This opportunity to share dinner together provided an opportunity to celebrate the crucial role educators play in shaping young minds and fostering a passion for aerospace. It was a night to celebrate not only their achievements but also the dedication and commitment they bring to the field of education.

As the evening progressed, attendees had the chance to engage in conversation and learn about many of the programs that the AMA offers to educators. Some of these included our Model Aviation Student Clubs (MASCs), student scholarship programs, the Know Before You Fly drone kits, various competitions like UAS4STEM and the Heavy Lift Challenge, as well as our quick projects, curriculum, free flight aircraft, and many more. Those present heard from various members of the AMA Education team, as well as the AMA Government Advocacy team and Executive Director Chad Budreau who spoke to the history of the AMA and it’s longstanding involvement and advancement in model aviation.

The dinner came in advance of a special visit to the Rolls Royce manufacturing facility the following day. This exclusive opportunity allowed the AFA Teacher of the Year awardees to gain firsthand insights into cutting-edge aerospace technologies and witness the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into the production of world-class engines.

The coming together of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the Air and Space Forces Association, and Rolls Royce in the heart of Indianapolis symbolizes the opportunities that exist within the aviation community to blend education, innovation, and aerospace from a wide range of viewpoints. As we celebrate the dedication of exceptional teachers, we also acknowledge the importance of fostering a passion for aviation that will propel future generations to even greater heights.

In the spirit of this collaboration, we look forward to witnessing the positive ripple effect as these educators carry the inspiration gained from this event back to their classrooms, encouraging students to dream big, aim high, and believe that the sky is never the limit. It’s the place where opportunities await.
