AMA Member and Professor of Engineering Pays Visit to AMA Headquarters, Introduces CNC Airfoil Machine for STEM Education

The AMA Education Department was pleased to welcome Paul Voss to the International Aeromodeling Center for a demo of his new and innovative CNC airfoil cutting machine. Paul is an associate professor of engineering at Smith College, an all-female liberal arts college in Northampton, Massachusetts. He is also an AMA member that has been building, designing, and flying model aircraft since he was a teenager. During his visit, Paul introduced a simple and safe CNC airfoil cutter that he has developed for STEM education and outreach. The AirTime CNC machine is like a mini aircraft factory for the classroom, and can be used to cut airfoils, stabilizers, fuselage parts, etc. using low cost foam board. It is inexpensive, doesn’t require a computer or software to run, and emits only a small amount of fumes.
