Silver Creek Model Aviation Student Club

The Silver Creek Model Aviation Student Club began when two students approached their art teacher, Mr. Jerry Tropman about starting a school aeromodeling club. At that time, Mr. Tropman had no previous experience with RC flying. Together, Mr. Tropman and his students worked with the Longmont Electric Aircraft Flyers (LEAF) Program and AMA District IX AVP Rick McCaskill to get the club off the ground. According to Mr. Tropman, Rick has been a great resource and mentor to the club. [caption id="attachment_1025" align="aligncenter" width="562"]

The Longmont Electric Aircraft Flyers (LEAF) started its Intro Pilot Program roughly five years ago for two main reasons: to introduce RC flying to the public and to increase club membership—especially youth members. The program has had great success meeting both objectives.

Their activities include: building planes and quads, learning on the flight simulator, flying outside as weather permits, and flying inside with planes and quads. This winter they are working on making simulator models of the planes and quads they are building so that the students can learn more about aeronautics, and of course how the planes fly before attempting a real model.
