Enthusiasts try to keep model planes aloft

Bob Wilder can’t remember a time when he wasn’t flying model airplanes.”I’m building a radio-controlled World War I biplane now for indoor flight,” said the 74-year-old Colleyville man.Many of Wilder’s models are small enough to be powered by electric motors, or even rubber bands, and can be flown indoors or outdoors.They’re part of a level of model flying called park fliers.Park fliers aren’t universally welcomed in city parks. Arlington recently banned motor-driven airplanes from its parks, and Hurst might have followed suit had hobbyists not intervened.
