Members Share Their Build Projects

Passionate about building model aircraft? October is AMA’s Build Month. Two weeks ago, we asked members to share their build projects with us. See what some of our members hope to build or are currently building!

It’s what I am building now..   From Plans…  104″ wingspan Sea Fury know as Dreadnought.  With Folding Wings assisted by Earl Aune.  Heres are a couple of pics…

I just finished building this 72” Clancy Aviation Big Lazy Bee kit I’ve had in storage for over 30 years.  I’ve attached a few pictures of it below.

I installed a Hacker A30-12XL brushless motor, 14×7 Xoar wood prop, Castle Creations Phoenix 45 ESC, Hitec HS-85MG servos, Spektrum AR-7000 Rx, 4s 3200mah lipo, and Trexler ballon tires. AUW came to 4 lbs exactly.

It took me about 3 months of building here and there in my spare time.

I’ve built many Clancy Bee plane kit variations over my almost 30 years of flying including 40” and 48” Lazy Bees, Baby Bees, and Yard Bees.

The Lazy Bee is my all time favorite R/C airplane and I’m glad to see that it is back in production.

Thanks for continuing to publish Model Aviation magazine.

  1. I’m starting to build the Little Tiger from the AMA plans for my aviator wife and hope to have it ready soon. I’ll start on my glow version of the eCobra from the AMA plans after getting her plane finished so we can fly them together. The plans are great! Our wishes also go out to Hazel’s family. I’ve built several Sig kits over the years.
