I will begin this month by featuring an active club in Pennsylvania, the Blue & Gray Miniature Aircraft Squadron located in historic Gettysburg. I recently attended one of the club’s events, the 14th annual J.J. Kornaski Chili Fly.
The day began with Jeff Black, club president, welcoming everyone in attendance and pointing out the new club storage shed that was purchased with money raised from several events held throughout the year. Contest Director (CD) Mike Brown held a brief pilots’ meeting stating the safety rules for the field and then the flying began. The skies were busy all weekend and everyone enjoyed the great-tasting chili on a beautiful fall Pennsylvania weekend.
In addition to the chili fly-in, the club held a warbird event in June and an electric fly-in on National Model Aviation Day in August where the club raised $200 for the AMA Foundation. If you are a Civil War history buff and a modeler, I cannot think of a better place to visit than Gettysburg and fly with the Blue & Grey Squadron at the club’s beautiful facility located on the hallowed Gettysburg battlegrounds.
Thank you, Blue & Gray Miniature Aircraft Squadron, for promoting model aviation in such a positive manor.
When you read this, I will have begun a new chapter in my life. I retired from my job of more than 45 years in the automotive parts business. I am looking forward to spending more time with my family, and because of your support, I will continue to devote my time and energy to AMA and the fine modelers of District III.
Thank you for allowing me to do what I love and that is enjoy and promote model aviation and represent you, the AMA members of District III, to our organization in Muncie, Indiana.
Until next month, fly safely—fly AMA
