AMA District VI News November 2025

Jeremy Church reported that the Jasper RC Flyers’ 2025 Annual Fun-Fly in Jasper, Indiana, on August 2 brought together 24 pilots from across District VI. This laid-back event featured fun-flying, demonstrations, and the much-loved candy drop that delighted kids and spectators alike.

The club’s focus on safe community flying and outreach remains strong, welcoming new enthusiasts while keeping the fun front and center. The Jasper RC Flyers are also deeply grateful for the RC training aircraft that were provided by the AMA Foundation. This has become an indispensable tool for introducing newcomers to our hobby and outreach efforts. The training aircraft have been used extensively with the Youth members. One of the new Youth members was so enthusiastic that he invited a friend to join in.

Dale Arvin reported that the sky was abundant with warbirds and classic RC airplanes during the Bluegrass Warbirds and Classics event held at the beautiful Rosewood RC Flyers field in Elizabeth, Indiana, on July 24 through July 27. It was four days of continuous flying of some of the nicest airplanes you will ever see. Pilots came from all over the US, some from as far as California and Arizona.

It was a little warm this year, but that did not deter these pilots from taking to the sky to show off their flying skills and enjoying their latest creations. Sunday was open flying for any size of Scale RC airplane.

Rege Hall, from the Blacksheep R/C Modelers Club in Danville, Indiana, reported that the club hosted its annual National Model Aviation Day event at the field to support the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation. They had 44 pilots who displayed and flew more than 100 various aircraft.

The day opened with a three-biplane flyover from the Indy Bipes as veterans raised the flag to the National Anthem. Many spectators attended this event. They had sport airplanes, warbirds, helicopters, EDFs, and turbine jets on display and flying. Trainer flights were provided with the club’s new AeroScout trainers that were obtained through an AMA Take off And Grow Grant.

Candy drops and parachute drops were popular with the younger kids. They raised funds by selling hotdog lunches, drinks, and snacks. Raffle tickets were also sold for RC airplanes that were courtesy of the club, many of which were donated by club members.

Jon Britt stated that the Kansas City Radio Control Association (KC/RC) in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, celebrated National Model Aviation Day on August 16. Visitors participated in a ground school utilizing flight simulators with instructors in air-conditioned comfort. They then buddy-boxed visitors on introductory flights.

The highlight of the day was the air show put on by the club’s very best pilots. After the air show, spectators were invited onto the runway to meet the pilots and get close to the airplanes. The event enjoyed a great turnout, with 30 pilots, 50-plus airplanes, and more than 100 spectators. Twenty-five youngsters registered for simulator training plus live introductory flights.

Boy Scout Troop 1306 prepared breakfast and lunch then KC/RC hosted a barbecue potluck dinner for all pilots and their families. All of the pilot entry fees and raffle proceeds were donated to Angel Flight Central, whose mission is serving people with long-distance charitable aviation transport for health care and other humanitarian situations.
