Jeremy Church reported that June was a dynamic month for the Jasper RC Flyers club in Jasper, Indiana:
The club members are actively engaged with the community through a variety of exciting events. June began with the Patoka Valley Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. The cadets came to our flying field to launch rockets as part of earning their model rocketry badge. It was an evening filled with enthusiasm and teamwork.
Next, we partnered with Vincennes University Jasper Campus for its STEM Camp. Using chuck gliders, our members helped campers explore how center of gravity affects flight.

The month culminated with our annual open house on June 21. Three experienced pilots guided a steady stream of first-time fliers, welcoming many people of all ages to the joys of RC aviation. The Jasper RC Flyers are proud to share our passion for model aviation and STEM education with the community and look forward to continuing these outreach efforts in the months ahead.
Ed Rogala, from the Midwest Sundowners RC Flying Club in Wheeler, Indiana, shared the following:
We held our Model Aviation Day on June 21, with 15 to 20 mph wind all day and the temperature in the mid-90s. Despite the weather, we had 14 new students sign up for a free flying lesson. These students had never before visited our flying site and were between 12 and 16 years old. Because of the wind, we provided flying lessons using our newly installed flight simulator. Perry Hershman spent time with each student, providing them with hands-on time flying the simulator.
Each student received an AMA balsa wood glider, the AMA Sign Up Now! brochure, and a club membership application. At lunch, each student was offered a free hamburger, chips, and a soft drink or water. Twenty club members signed up to put on demonstration flights during the day, but the extreme wind resulted in only four to six flights being flown. A model rocket demonstration was presented before the event ended.

I want to thank AMA for the help and coaching provided to me in preparation for this event.
AMA District VI Associate Vice President Dale Arvin reported on the 53rd annual Mint Julep Scale Meet.
This year’s event was held at the beautiful Rosewood RC Flyers Bill Beech Airfield (www.rosewoodrc.com), in Rosewood, Indiana. The field is truly a miniature aircraft airport. It has both grass and paved runways, shelters, water, and electricity.
Scale pilots came from the surrounding states and as far away as Alabama and Michigan. At 53 years, the Mint Julep is the longest-running RC Scale meet in the US, next to the AMA Scale Nats.
Aircraft included World War I and II, civilian, and jets. We also have a category just for electric foamies. Awards were presented for the Best Civilian and Best Military. We had to dodge some rain drops, but we made flights on Saturday.
