Walt Wilson reported that the Bluegrass Miniature Race Car Club, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, hosted the American Miniature Racing Car Association 2024 Nationals in September. Tether car racers came from as far away as Switzerland, Germany, Arizona, and California to compete.

Hurricane Helene dumped rain every day of the event. Track drying was an ongoing effort. On Thursday of the event, the weather was good and people were able to turn practice times. Friday, the first day of competition, was a rain-out. Saturday, despite the weather, everyone was able to get some runs in. Bob Jaquez turned 206.047 mph to win the World Organization for Model Car Racing Class 5.

Rege Hall, from the Blacksheep RC Modelers in Danville, Indiana, shared the following:

We held our 28th annual New Year’s Day Fly-In and soup lunch. We had 20 members who braved the elements to get in a first flight of the new year. Legend has it that a flight on the first day of a new year is good fortune throughout the year. We were treated to snow, sleet, light rain showers, and 25-plus mph wind in 30° temperatures. All enjoyed ham and bean soup or chili, plus hangar flying.

Mike Morton reported this:

The Henderson Radio Control Model Airplane Club, in Henderson, Kentucky, hosted its 25th annual Snowbird event. The weather was seasonably cold, with temperatures in the low 30s and a stiff northwest wind. Fifteen members and family braved the weather for the event.

The event has always included a potluck lunch. Also available were wonderful homemade desserts and even ice cream. Some started the new year with flying in the 18 to 24 mph wind. Others flew from their chairs in the lodge close to the heat and food.

Bob Larsen reported on the annual food drive that has been held for the past 33 years by the Tri-Village RC and Northwest RC clubs in the Schaumburg, Illinois, area. December 8 was the annual food drive and Chili Penguin Fun-Fly. It was the best weather we have had in many years.

Bob and Ken provided great chili with all the fixings. Susan provided the hot chocolate. The dry goods were delivered to Schaumburg Township’s food pantry. The monetary donations this year, $2,090, were split evenly between both the Schaumburg and Hanover Township food pantries.

Andrew Schrag shared that the inaugural Frozen Fingers Fly-In took place at the Mid Missouri Modelers in Warrensburg, Missouri, on January 7. It was attended by a few heavily dressed fliers. It was brutally cold, but the powdery snow was perfect. Skipping on and off the snow on the runway took touch-and-goes to the next level of fun.
