Jeremy Church reported that on June 22, 2024, the Jasper RC Flyers, in Jasper, Indiana, held its open house event. Three members were set up to buddy-box newcomers, and they were busy the entire time. We provided the opportunity to have youth build and decorate chuck gliders. They had 15 builders.
An E-flite Apprentice with everything needed to get started in the hobby was raffled off. The Jasper RC Flyers gained two new members from this event.
District VI Associate Vice President (AVP) Nick Ziegler reported the following:
On July 20, I attended the Erie RC Scale Fly-In, at Erie Airpark in Erie, Illinois. It is home of the Quad City Challenger, owned by some amazing hosts, Jim and Sue Robinson. Erie RC has been around for nearly 50 years with the charter number of 1,000. Talk about an amazing field and amazing weather! The windsock didn’t move once.
With 20-plus pilots registered, and roughly 80 airplanes in attendance, the Erie RC club hosted a fun, laid-back event. There was lots of flying and new and old friends hanging out. I flew more there in one day than I have in the last month.
The airplanes ranged from small foamies to Byron Originals models, lots of Balsa USA aircraft, turbines, all scales of airplanes, and nearly anything you can think of by any manufacturer! There was also a pair of full-scale J-3 Cubs. A beautiful Balsa USA Albatross won the event with a Kolm twin.
The award was well deserved. The model was impeccable and I’m a Scale guy, myself. It was beyond amazing. Great prizes were raffled off, and the burgers and food that the club cooked were tasty and there was plenty of it. As a new AVP, I have to say that it was well organized and the event ran well. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and I had a good time. I have a feeling that this event will grow with time. I see myself going back again.
Bill Boltz and Ed Rogala reported on the Midwest Sundowners event:
Remembering Veterans Day, previously known as Warbirds Day, was successful, with 21 registered pilots. We had lots of spectators and five in attendance received free introductory flights using the club trainer. There were 22 airplanes entered in the People’s Choice Best Warbird model competition.
Let’s hear from your club! Send me a 150-word description of your club’s event, along with a couple of pictures. Email it to AMAdistrictVI@modelaircraft.org. Keep in mind, pictures must be at least 500 KB stand-alone jpg files.
