AMA District VI News May 2023

It’s finally here: the 2023 flying season! I am excited to get out and visit flying fields once again.

In June, the AMA Headquarters in Muncie, Indiana, will host the 2023 AMA National Fun Fly at the International Aeromodeling Center. The dates are June 23-25, and it will feature a large swap meet. We will hold the annual AMA Membership Meeting on Saturday during the event. To register and find more information, visit www.modelaircraft.org/funfly.

I didn’t have any submissions this month, so I begged my friends at the Lake Ozark Radio Control Society (LORCS) club for a quick, last-minute write-up that I could use, which follows. The text was written by Frank Noyes and the pictures were taken by Shaun Zimmerman.

The year 2023 has been a great year for members of the LORCS, located in mid-Missouri. The weather this past January and February was great for flying. We had eight to 10 members come out to fly on the good weather days, which were abundant.

Regular attendees included Steve Mandernach, Dave McDonald, Dave Henson, Keith Epperson, Larry Perkins, and Tim Townsend. Our club is fortunate to have many forms of flying going on. Gas, glow, turbine, and electric-powered airplanes shared the sky at the field, as well as the knowledge that each has learned in their chosen style of flying.

I hope others have had good weather to fly in early in the year!

Now that the flying season is in full swing, take time when you get home to tell me about your club’s event. To get your club’s event or even just a fun day of flying into my column, simply write a 150-word description of the event, and include a couple of pictures.

Email it to me at AMAdistrictVI@modelaircraft.org with the word “magazine” in the subject line. Keep in mind that each picture must be at least 500 KB as a standalone JPG file.

Remember to take time to introduce someone new to model aviation. This is the perfect time of the year to take a youth or newcomer to the flying field. Help get youth excited about model aviation, because they are the future of our hobby!
