As promised, I want to highlight what makes District V great. Most of the time it’s like any other great production—it’s the people behind the scenes. They are the people you never see, but they are there every step of the way, making appearances, feeding information, and answering questions. Because our district is so big, this will take a few columns, but I would like to take time to introduce all our associate vice presidents (AVPs). Here is a little bit about some of these individuals behind the scenes. When you see them out at the flying fields, say hey, ask your questions, and enjoy flying!
Bob Dixon, Georgia AVP, specializes in Control Line (CL) and RC. He is a member of the CL Contest Board and is a Leader Member and Contest Director (CD). He has been an AMA member for 52 years. |
Nick Ray, Georgia AVP, specializes in Indoor FF. He has been an AMA member since 2003 and is the current US F1D team manager. |
Don Wise, South Carolina AVP, has been an AMA member for approximately 35 years. He is a CD and Leader Member. Don enjoys all types of models and flying and has flown RC Aerobatics for several years. |
Red Scholefield is the District V safety coordinator and resides in Florida. He started modeling in the early 1940s with rubber-powered and hand-launch models. After three years in the Air Force, Red joined the AMA in the early 1950s. He has served as a CD and in various club officer positions including president, secretary, treasurer, safety officer, and newsletter editor. Red has flown CL, Free Flight (FF), and RC. |
Keith Hall serves as an AVP in Florida and is the vice president of the Triple Creek RC club in Riverview, Florida. He has flow RC for more than 50 years and joined AMA in 1980. Keith is generally a sport flier and has started getting involved in electric power during the past couple of years. |

I recently retired from a 20- year career in the UAV industry as a chief pilot. I am a member in both of my local flying clubs. My modeling interests run the gamut: FF, CL, RC, fixed and rotary wing, and all power systems from micro electrics to turbine.” |
