As we all know, parts of the United States have experienced some severe weather of the last few months and many of our members and clubs have been impacted by storms, flooding, fires, etc.
Natural disasters don’t bypass a flying site and can leave the field inaccessible and/or unusable. Following Hurricane Katrina, AMA established the Club Disaster Assistance Program. This program provides a financial grant to clubs in an effort to help clear debris from the field or to make the site and runway adequate for flying. Clubs that experienced damages to their flying sites can receive up to $500. If your club field has been damaged by a natural disaster, please complete an application for the grant and submit it to AMA Headquarters. You can find the application and the contact information at www.modelaircraft.org/membership/clubs/drelief.aspx.
If your club has received a grant in the past we would like to hear from you! Please tell us your club’s story (including before/after pictures if available) so that we can share it with others across the country! You can email us at clubs@modelaircraft.org or mail your story with pictures to AMA, 5161 E. Memorial Dr., Muncie IN 47302. Please add Club Disaster Assistance Story as a reference.
Why doesn’t the AMA increase our annual Club renewal fee by an amount that would allow for up to $10,000 worth of damage insurance for each club?
