Wounded Warrior Project has been selected as the charity of support for the 2014 National Model Aviation Day (NMAD) celebration. AMA chose WWP again this year due to the great responses we received from clubs that felt honored to help this charity, and provided feedback indicating that the name recognition of the WWP played an important role in the success of their events.
Wounded Warrior Project was established to honor and empower our wounded veterans and military heroes. WWP raises public awareness and enlists support for the injured service members. WWP helps injured service members’ aid and assist each other and provides unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of our injured veterans.

We have received a number of emails and phone calls from members asking questions about WWP and their mission.
These questions have been answered in full on the National Model Aviation Day website.
Is WWP worthy of AMA’s and AMA club’s support?
AMA suggests that if our members have questions about WWP that they visit https://www.charitynavigator.org to conduct their own research about the WWP (or any other charity). Charity Navigator, and other sites like it, provide information on various charities within the US, and rank them against each other. Their information, including financial statements, come from public documents. All charitable organizations are required to share their financial statements, including IRS form 990, to provide donors with the information they need to understand how the organization uses its donated resources. These are all public records.
Since 2001, more than 50,000 servicemen and women have been physically injured, and it’s estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. To reach and serve these warriors the WWP has expanded its program by adding additional staff and services aimed at supporting the warriors where they live. WWP has invested in and expanded its fundraising efforts to ensure they meet the lifelong needs of these veterans. As a result, WWP programs have grown over the last 5 years at an annual rate of 40%, providing an additional $300 million in support to our Warriors and their families.
Wounded Warrior Project leads the industry in transparency and reporting publicly on the effectiveness of our programs. They invite everyone to visit the Mission section on their website which includes easy-to-read program metrics and statistics. This is a great visual resource showcasing the positive and lasting impact their programs and services have on the wounded veterans and families we serve.
WWP works hard to keep administrative costs associated with the operation of WWP as low as possible. Based on their fiscal year audited financial statements ending September 30, 2011, 82.8% of total expenditures went to provide services and programs. This far exceeds the Better Business Bureau’s minimum standard for charities.
