July 20, 2021: Indoor Free Flight Nats Begin

By Rob Romash

After a 2020 of cautious waiting, meets such as these Nats are getting back on board. Being my first time here in Pontiac, Michigan, after endless days of green crop driving, impressions are of a tight venue, with more green, calm air and a good place to fly. I am happy to see entire sides of the venue lined with competitors. We even have a few vendors like Indoor Model Supply and J&R Aerospace

In the past, I hear there was an (air conditioner) incident but has since been ameliorated.

After a very brief practice time we dug into gliders.

Newcomer Guha eyeballs Kurt’s balletlike DLG launching technique. Guha has just the right look for HLG and can put some real skin into a throw. Guha gets it just like everyone here. It all moves at its own pace inside.

I can see inside Guha’s head. “I will dominate the world of Indoor Glider.”

I can hear inside Kurt’s head, “Why is my tongue hanging out?”

Body Double?!!??? mmmmmmmm

I went to watch 7/20/2021 and there was much to see. Scale, and planes not scale but competing for best time. There was rubber powered, hand launch, catapult launch. I had a. good time and
hope to go again on 7/21
