This is the first post in a week-long series celebrating National Preservation Week.\u00a0 NMAM blog posts in this series will discuss how to preserve your own modeling history.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Preserving your stories is the single most important thing you can do to preserve your photographs, model airplanes and the other objects that are vital to you.\u00a0 It is through the stories that you have about the objects that you convey its meaning.\u00a0 Once this context is known by others, it helps them realize how important the objects are and makes them more likely to want to care for them.<\/p>\n

So how do you preserve stories?\u00a0 The simplest thing to do is to tell someone.\u00a0 Share your memories during the next family dinner.\u00a0 Use them as bedtime stories for your grandkids.\u00a0 Just share.<\/p>\n

If you want your stories to be a bit more permanent than memory, write them down or record yourself telling them (with\u00a0either audio or with video), or partner with someone and do an oral history (which can also be recorded).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Once that’s done, the focus shifts to preserving the media that story is on.\u00a0 The American Library Association has some good tips for preserving different types of media<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You can also tune into the American Library Association\u2019s webinar on digital archiving on Wednesday, April 24, 2013<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"Logo<\/a>The National Model Aviation Museum is preserving stories through the AMA\u2019s History Program<\/a>.\u00a0 The History Program asks modelers to tell the story of their \u2013 or a friend\u2019s – modeling career.\u00a0 Each individual\u2019s story tells that person\u2019s history.\u00a0 Together they all tell the history of model aviation.\u00a0 You are encouraged to contribute your story to the History Program.\u00a0 This guide gives advice on how<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
