In order to maintain an open communication flow between AMA and various departments within the FAA, t<\/span>he AMA Government Affairs\u00a0<\/span>team\u00a0<\/span>meets<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>regularly\u00a0<\/span>with the FAA.\u00a0<\/span>We have daily contact with the FAA<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0a weekly scheduled teleco<\/span>nference\u00a0<\/span>that<\/span>\u00a0involves\u00a0<\/span>leadership from\u00a0<\/span>multiple departments.\u00a0<\/span>The call involves representatives from Flight Standards, the Air Traffic\u00a0<\/span>Organization,<\/span>\u00a0the Integration Office, the UAS Policy Team, and others.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The purpose of\u00a0<\/span>these<\/span>\u00a0call<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0is to\u00a0<\/span>discuss developments that\u00a0<\/span>occur<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>regarding<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>aeronautical knowledge and safety test, operations in controlled airspace, operations in uncontrolled (Class G) airspace,<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Letter of Agreement (LOA)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Safety Risk\u00a0<\/span>Management<\/span>\u00a0(SRM)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>process,\u00a0<\/span>and any new topics that m<\/span>ight\u00a0<\/span>arise.\u00a0<\/span>Currently, a large portion of th<\/span>ese\u00a0<\/span>call<\/span>s are<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>dedicated to\u00a0<\/span>address<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>clubs that are in controlled airspace and the status of their LOA.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Every week, we<\/span>\u00a0are updated with the current position of\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0LOA and\u00a0<\/span>can<\/span>\u00a0track the movement of each<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>We are working to encourage clubs to sign proposed LOAs and determine if an SRM panel will be needed to obtain higher altitudes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are also updated on the status of Community-<\/span>B<\/span>ased Organization\u00a0<\/span>recognition\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>tentative<\/span>\u00a0release dates for the knowledge and safety test.\u00a0<\/span>Because of<\/span>\u00a0COVID-19, many projects have\u00a0<\/span>halt<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0and are\u00a0<\/span>awaiting<\/span>\u00a0approval from the FAA\u00a0<\/span>l<\/span>egal team<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Our\u00a0<\/span>continuous<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>communication efforts with the FAA ha<\/span>ve<\/span>\u00a0helped mitigate many issues that have come up and allow us to advocate for the hobby.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
