Communication Efforts with the FAA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>In order to maintain an open communication flow between AMA and various departments within the FAA, t<\/span><span>he AMA Government Affairs\u00a0<\/span><span>team\u00a0<\/span><span>meets<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>regularly\u00a0<\/span><span>with the FAA.\u00a0<\/span><span>We have daily contact with the FAA<\/span><span>\u00a0and<\/span><span>\u00a0a weekly scheduled teleco<\/span><span>nference\u00a0<\/span><span>that<\/span><span>\u00a0involves\u00a0<\/span><span>leadership from\u00a0<\/span><span>multiple departments.\u00a0<\/span><span>The call involves representatives from Flight Standards, the Air Traffic\u00a0<\/span><span>Organization,<\/span><span>\u00a0the Integration Office, the UAS Policy Team, and others.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The purpose of\u00a0<\/span><span>these<\/span><span>\u00a0call<\/span><span>s<\/span><span>\u00a0is to\u00a0<\/span><span>discuss developments that\u00a0<\/span><span>occur<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>regarding<\/span><span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span>aeronautical knowledge and safety test, operations in controlled airspace, operations in uncontrolled (Class G) airspace,<\/span><span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span>Letter of Agreement (LOA)<\/span><span>,<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Safety Risk\u00a0<\/span><span>Management<\/span><span>\u00a0(SRM)<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>process,\u00a0<\/span><span>and any new topics that m<\/span><span>ight\u00a0<\/span><span>arise.\u00a0<\/span><span>Currently, a large portion of th<\/span><span>ese\u00a0<\/span><span>call<\/span><span>s are<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>dedicated to\u00a0<\/span><span>address<\/span><span>ing<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>clubs that are in controlled airspace and the status of their LOA.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Every week, we<\/span><span>\u00a0are updated with the current position of\u00a0<\/span><span>a<\/span><span>\u00a0LOA and\u00a0<\/span><span>can<\/span><span>\u00a0track the movement of each<\/span><span>.\u00a0<\/span><span>We are working to encourage clubs to sign proposed LOAs and determine if an SRM panel will be needed to obtain higher altitudes.<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We are also updated on the status of Community-<\/span><span>B<\/span><span>ased Organization\u00a0<\/span><span>recognition\u00a0<\/span><span>and\u00a0<\/span><span>tentative<\/span><span>\u00a0release dates for the knowledge and safety test.\u00a0<\/span><span>Because of<\/span><span>\u00a0COVID-19, many projects have\u00a0<\/span><span>halt<\/span><span>ed<\/span><span>\u00a0and are\u00a0<\/span><span>awaiting<\/span><span>\u00a0approval from the FAA\u00a0<\/span><span>l<\/span><span>egal team<\/span><span>.\u00a0<\/span><span>Our\u00a0<\/span><span>continuous<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>communication efforts with the FAA ha<\/span><span>ve<\/span><span>\u00a0helped mitigate many issues that have come up and allow us to advocate for the
