VIP TFRs are a real aggravation for modelers. When the president comes to town it results in a disruption in our enjoyment of our hobby. However, for others it is a disruption in their daily lives and for some a true economic hardship.<\/p>\n
Does AMA believe that model aircraft operations need to be curtailed to achieve an adequate level of security for our heads of state? Absolutely not, at least not to the extent entailed in the current process. However, addressing curtailment of our hobby in the midst of what is a huge security undertaking and in the face of significant hardships borne by other segments of our society becomes an extremely delicate matter.<\/p>\n
AMA believes there are alternative means available for achieving the desired level of security without restricting MA operations in the current manner. We are currently working with FAA\u2019s Special Operations Security division along with the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and the other sport aviation groups in an effort to obtain relief for our members and the aero sport community in general.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, this is a long and involved process.\u00a0 I suspect it will be some time before we see any significant relief, and we may not see any real change until there is a change for the better in the global political climate.<\/p>\n
