Extending the task force to June 30, 2017.\u00a0 This task force has been allowed for an open dialog of the use of sUAS industry.\u00a0 The task force has quickly reviewed existing laws and regulations to ensure safety and privacy of the public, while also continuing the discussion of legal use and opportunity of the technology within the State of Alaska.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em>\u201cThe AMA continues to be pleased and optimistic of the State of Alaska\u2019s common sense approach and inclusion of the sport and hobby industry in this evolving discussion.\u201d<\/em> \u2013Rich Hanson, AMA Government Relations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em>\u201cI am pleased with the progress and methodical approach that our legislature led by representative Shelly Hughes and Governor Sean Parnell and his Administration, have taken in resolving sUAS activity.\u00a0 They have been focused on protecting the public interests while also seeking opportunities where this technology can be used to manage our states vast wilderness and resources. \u00a0As a member of this board,\u00a0I look forward to expanding the opportunities for STEM education and hobbyist flying fields as solutions to responsible use of sUAS technology. \u00a0\u00a0While some in our membership may see this technology as distraction from our hobby, I see this as an evolution that begins a renewed interest in model aviation and opportunity of support for partnerships for AMA sanctioned flying sites\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Steve Colligan, AMA Alaska UAS Task Force member.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alaska Governor Sean Parnell signed into law HB-255 and HCR-15 further defining public use of Unmanned Aerial Systems and the continuation of the Legislative Task Force on Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
