Allen said \u201cstudents who try to fly drones outside the Trowbridge Livestock Center practice spot will fail the class,\u201d Jost writes.<\/p>\n<p>While drones do have agricultural applications \u2014 one student \u201csaid the idea of monitoring animals in a conservation area intrigues her, as does tracking the perimeters of enclosures for poachers\u201d \u2014 the flights are indoors because the FAA last summer directed the University of Missouri (as well as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chronicle.com\/blogs\/wiredcampus\/2-drone-journalism-programs-seek-federal-approval-to-resume-flying\/45653\" target=\"_blank\">University of Nebraska-Lincoln<\/a>) to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.columbiatribune.com\/news\/education\/faa-hampers-mu-j-school-drone-classes\/article_162d9e8c-0b51-11e3-83dd-10604b9ffe60.html\" target=\"_blank\">cease its drone-journalism program<\/a>\u00a0pending instructors obtaining certificates of authorization.<\/p>\n<p>Instructors have to get a certificate for each class they plan to teach, MU\u2019s Matthew Dickinson tells Jost: That\u2019s \u201cjust silly because you can\u2019t predict 60 to 90 days ahead of time what you\u2019re going to need to cover.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MU\u2019s responsibility is \u201cto prepare young people to be as formidable as possible in the marketplace,\u201d Allen tells Jost. \u201cEven if laws say you may not fly now, it\u2019s not going to be that way for long, and they will be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poynter.org\/latest-news\/top-stories\/237649\/journalists-await-new-drone-regulations-and-wait-and-wait\/\" target=\"_blank\">Journalists await new drone regulations.
