Many clubs and organizations use their knowledge of model aeronautics to hold events and fundraisers that benefit their community or a special cause. One event that has received attention recently is Wings For Wishes (WFW). This event was founded in February of 2011 by Eric Kendall who was inspired to start the event by a young man by the name of Dylan Levy. Dylan was granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish foundation after he was diagnosed with BA. (a sick liver) at a young age. Eric was moved by what Make-A-Wish did for Dylan and his family, and Eric wanted so bad to do his part and help Make-A-Wish Foundation grant more wishes like Dylan’s. Soon after, Eric started Wings For Wishes to raise money for the program in Polson, Montana. The annual event awards 100% of the profits/proceeds to Make-A-Wish.
This year’s event, held August 18-19 2012, brought in over $2,000 in donations. The event raises money by charging a landing fee for the fun fly, selling raffle tickets, taking donations and with a silent auction.
Although Eric was too busy to fly, he still had a great time.
“Knowing the simple fact that either we assisted in granting a wish for a child here in Montana or knowing that we did grant a wish for a kid here in Montana, that does it all right there. I mean it’s all about the kids. That’s our focus here and that’s everything,” Kendall explained.
Thank you to all the volunteers who made the event a success.
