G3 Drones for Good (DFG) engages middle school students, teachers, and professional engineering mentors in a STEM competition involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
DFG is an exciting STEM competition involving drones for students in grades 6 - 8. Middle school students work with their mentors and teachers to develop an innovative drone-based solution to a problem in their community, state, or the world. They will build and fly their own K'Nex based drones. Check out the examples of DFG drones in the picture below and this
video of how the basic kit is assembled. Students develop research, problem-solving, and communication skills while designing, building, and flying their own drones.
The major outreach program of the G3 Drone Team is the G3 Drones for Good Tournament for middle school students. While everyone is welcome, they target students from schools serving disadvantaged areas as part of our greater goal of making STEM activity available to all students. All students in our program are required to join AMA, learn the AMA guidelines, and FAA rules. Each team is also asked to register with the FAA.
