Lorain County RC Club provides educational outreach to introduce local youth to model aviation.

For the second year in a row, the Elyria Public Library System partnered with the Lorain County Radio Control Club to present an educational summer program for children ages 6 to 12. The children registered at the library, went to the flying field where they were given a flying lesson with a club member, got to try their hand at a flight simulator, and then had a snack provided by the library. Last year, the children and their parents had a wonderful time. Neil Mabrouk, the president of the Lorain County Radio Control Club, contacted the AMA Education Department to receive gliders for the June 25th event.

After the event, The AMA received this note from the Elyria Public Library: "I'd like to thank you for sending the sample planes for us to use when the Lorain County Radio Control Club partnered with us at the Elyria Public Library System to present On Your Mark, Get Set, Fly! The local club's participation in this, and your contribution shows your commitment to the children in our community. Seeing the excitement on the children's faces was wonderful. Club President Neil Mabrouk and the other members of the AMA built foam planes with the kids, had them experience virtual reality flying, and even gave all of the children individual flight lessons. Hopefully this exposure to aviation will be a spark to get them further interested in flight and science." This is a wonderful example of a club reaching out and making a positive connection in their community!
