Flying season has arrived in the Northwest! I’m getting out and starting the busy runs of the summer.

I attended Joe Nall Week at the Triple Tree Aerodrome in Woodruff, South Carolina. This is where we had our AMA National Membership Meeting this year.

This is the biggest flying event in the US, with approximately 1,000 registered pilots. With many different venues on which to fly anything you can bring, all flightlines were busy the whole week. There were lots of flying demonstrations and vendors selling their wares.

AMA’s new executive director, Tyler Dobbs, was there meeting members and even got a chance to fly a bit on the float-flying flightline. Many different flying things were demonstrated. Pictured below are Fitz Walker and Lee Ray who flew a cradle-launch glider airplane on floats. It worked great!

Next was Weaver’s Field in Othello, Washington, for Gary Weaver’s annual Memorial Day fun-fly. I really like going to this field. Gary is a gracious host, and I always have a great time. He is taking up turbine jets, and I was able to get in enough flights to become current as a turbine contest director and sign off on his turbine waiver. I flew my new P-47 and my Boomerang Sprint turbine all weekend! It was great fun!

You should try to make it to Weaver’s Field; it is a wonderful place to fly.
