This event began more than 45 years ago at the club’s Chesterton Field location. This year’s event was dedicated to Richard Waugh, a longtime Sundowner member who recently passed away.

With a forecast for rain, the event started early with an 8:30 pilots’ meeting and the flightline opening at 9 a.m. Fifteen pilots registered for this annual event. Pilots were encouraged to have all of their flights logged to earn points for the pilot participation prizes. Fourteen pilots logged 67 flights before the flightline was closed for lunch. Four visitors signed up for the flight simulator and free training flights.

After the lunch break, the forecasted thunderstorm arrived, and flying ceased at 1 p.m. A live auction was held for the Jenny model donated by Greg and Tracy Gobla. It was won by club member Rich Prochut. A YS 120 engine with a tuned pipe was donated by Bill Bolz and won by an out-of-town guest. Pilot participation prizes were awarded next, with pilots choosing the prize of their choice based on the number of flights that were recorded. The raffle had two prizes: John Berns won the Beech 18 and Don Stryker won the Rhinebeck tickets.

Jeremy Church shared another report this month!

Flying High Across Generations: In the month of July, the Jasper RC Flyers proudly welcomed our two newest AMA pilots: Charlie, in his 70s, and Everett, age 11. Each recently completed flight training and became official club members—proof that RC aviation truly spans generations!

Charlie has shown that it’s never too late to earn your wings, bringing dedication and a big smile to every flight. Everett’s energy and sharp skills have set him soaring from the start. A reminder that the joy of flight is for everyone, no matter the age. Postage rates and printing costs have increased much more than we budgeted for this year. If you prefer a print magazine, please keep it, but if you are all right with a digital magazine and still receive one in print, please change your subscription to Model Aviation Digital. This would help us keep costs down plus save a tree. Thank you for your consideration!

For many of you, flying slows down this time of year, but some of you fly all year round. Submissions for my column also slow down at this time of year. Take advantage of the situation and send me pictures and a short article about your club’s activities. I will make sure that it gets in the District VI page of the magazine. Pictures of snow flying would be great, or just a normal day’s flying.

Email it to AMAdistrictVI@modelaircraft.org.
